Work.

For those of you who wonder what exactly I do at work... these are tasks I do/have done for various people:
  • Go through stacks of printed out emails, highlight/write important details, sort.
  • "Translate" (horribly) Arabic documents using Google Translate.
  • Call/email employees about benefits. Field calls/emails about benefits.
  • Reorganize filing cabinets full of HR stuff.
  • Sort through and reorganize files. Get rid of unneeded stuff.
  • Lie to people all day that so-and-so is "busy" or "unavailable" when they call.
  • Page lots of people when Bumpkin calls, especially on the days no one wants to talk to him.
  • Type addresses on envelopes and labels.
  • Stamp the mail in our mailing machine.
  • Package and send out Fedexes.
  • Open and sort incoming mail and Fedexes.
  • Sort invoices (no longer have to do this- yay!).
  • Fill out paperwork for new hires, terminations, and other things.
  • Stuff new hire folders and termination packets. Ensure enough copies are in drawers.
  • Send employee paperwork to corporate HR and payroll.
  • Send t-shirts, mugs, first aid kits, etc. to our other offices.
  • Make sure all the links function on the HR part of our intranet.
  • Revise our employee handbook / policy manual.
  • Deal with people Terp (my boss) does not want to deal with.
  • Tell visitors over and over that we are neither Old Dominion University nor NOVA.
  • Tell visitors and callers that we do not have available jobs at this office.
  • Tell people when their food delivery arrives.
  • Send out new employee lists every month.
  • Know who is in the office at all times and who is at lunch, working from home, in the field, on vacation, in another office, etc. (This one is hard.)
  • Remember everyone's extension and who wants to be told who is calling before they pick up. Page people. Forget the caller's name and have to ask again. Embarrass self.

And this is how I get through the day:

  • Check blogger when I get the chance.
  • Talk to awesome people on gmail chat.
  • Hear great stories from my boss and others. I work with cool people.
  • Whenever I walk by the front desk, Candy makes me smile.
  • One of the other admins calls me things like "darlin'" and "beautiful" when she calls. She always makes me smile.
  • Today I got an email from Frenchie (the new guy from our parent company who is sharing our office space): "Hang in there! Only an hour and 45 minutes left! LOL"

Today's really dragging on....... 1/2 an hour left until the WEEKEND!!!!!
